I'm dropping out of WFS to some extent as I've got too much to do. The committee is fairly depleted at the moment and we really need new input in many ways. I'm backing off now so that any re-grouping can take place before the season finishes, and if there is a problem then we can raise it at the AGM and put it to the members.

Maybe someone will want to do a web page but if not then I think this message board could do the business. It'd save loads of work. It's really easy to put stuff ...

Pity about the wirksworth.net message board - all that wit and wisdom gone down the pan! Where are Lynn C Doyle and her dodgy mates now? Hanging about on street corners up to no good I expect.

It�ll be interesting to see what they come up with to replace it. The old one wasn�t used as much as one would hope - but it was a bit basic.

Maybe a board with more features will attract more attention: groups and divisions representing the varied interests of Wirksworth people, live links, images ...

There was a good turnout for History Boys. Was this because of the film, the publicity, the new Town Hall venue?

Subtitles were requested for the hard of hearing. Was this a benefit for you, or a distraction?

How can we make this Forum a little more interesting? As it is about films why are we not talking about them.

We could do it in several ways...such as sharing favourite lines from films. How about a weekly film quiz? Or we could share our favourite sad/happy/shocked/ moments in films.

The Ritz at Belper is proving to be such a success. One of many items on their programme is a Thursday morning showing. Twice I have been there and enjoyed good coffee (with a free biscuit), an introduction by Ashley Franklin followed by the film. On both occasions, all seats were filled.

Could Wirksworth ever match this, do you think?

As it happens, I work in an office next door to the British Federation of Film Societies. I went in and said hello to Ros who told me a few interesting things.

(Are we members? It costs �60)

They offer films for hire for �80 to societies, pass on to next society on the list after viewing.

They have 2 DVDs of shorts. Cost �100 for 10 films includes license to show each one twice, then you own the DVD.

Their conference is at The Showroom Cinema in Sheffield �20 for members with ...

I've got The Battle of Algiers on my list. It's very watchable just as a film drama - tense, exciting. But also relevant to comtemporary issues: terrorism, 9/11, Iraq etc
